A guidebook for Svalbard?

Though I’m going to take a guided “exploring” cruise, I came across and started reading a very interesting guide by Andreas Umbreit (and updated by Roger Norum) from the publisher Bradt. It’s chockful of information and, yes, a lot of warnings. Svalbard is not the place for a little stroll on a whim. Admittedly, I got a bit overwhelmed when it came to the description of wildlife warning systems around camps, but as I don’t plan to spend a night in a tent here, that’s alright.

From practical information when to travel, to details like which boats are allowed to be rented, it’s all there. Svalbards regions, stations and settlements are described as well as the wildlife.

As I continue reading on the plane from Oslo to Longyearbyen, I’m getting really excited!
